How to replace a UPS battery?

At a certain point, you will come to realize that the battery in your UPS is running out faster than it was when new. There are many disadvantages of having a weak battery like not having enough time to save your work when power goes off which can result to data losses etc. Whatever the reasons, battery replacement is not something to involve a technician as it can be very easily done by anyone. The following is the procedure on UPS battery replacement.

First off, order a new battery from the manufacturers if the warranty period has not expired.
Detach the front cover by gently pulling at it. Using a screwdriver or any appropriate tool unscrew the battery door to reveal the battery.
The next step is to gently pull out the battery and remove the battery leads by pulling then back from the connectors. You need to be careful at this step because these leads are attached to the battery.
Attach the new battery to the leads. Make sure you attach the red wire to the positive terminal of the battery and the black wire to the negative terminal. This color codes can vary from one UPS brand to another so make sure that you have the owner’s manual close at hand for any references. Also a few sparks are normal during the connection.
Slid in the new battery into the compartment, making sure that the leads are not sticking out, screw the door back and replace the front cover.

Finally, make sure that you properly dispose the old battery because as a battery ages, dangerous chemicals leak out which can cause burns to people and things.
